The Denver Broncos are confident they’ve discovered their franchise quarterback in QB Bo Nix.
Now, their focus shifts to building the perfect team around him.
This was the central message from Broncos general manager George Paton, head coach Sean Payton, and owner Greg Penner during a press conference on Wednesday.
“We’re all searching for that rookie quarterback with franchise-level skills,” Paton said, per the team’s transcript. “I believe we’ve found that in Bo Nix. Now, it’s about continuing to build.”
A Bright Future with Nix at the Helm
The Broncos find themselves in an enviable position. Not only do they have faith in Nix’s ability to lead the team into the future, but the No. 12 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft is still on a cost-effective rookie contract. This provides the team with flexibility under the salary cap, enabling them to pursue marquee free agents or secure long-term deals for key players before Nix becomes eligible for an extension.
“You draft and develop players,” Paton explained. “You’re selective in free agency, but sometimes you make a splash. We’re fortunate to have Bo Nix, and now it’s about bringing in the right guys who fit our schemes on offense, defense, and special teams.”
The optimism surrounding the Broncos is grounded in Nix’s stellar rookie campaign.
A Rookie Season to Remember
Since Peyton Manning led the Broncos to victory in Super Bowl 50, the team had struggled to find consistent success at quarterback. In Nix, their 14th starting QB since Manning, and Sean Payton, their fifth head coach since Gary Kubiak, the Broncos have finally found a winning combination.
Nix posted impressive numbers in his debut season:
- Completed 66.3% of his passes.
- Threw for 3,775 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
- Added 430 rushing yards, four rushing touchdowns, and even a touchdown reception, totaling 34 offensive TDs—third-most in NFL history for a rookie.
“I’m really encouraged,” Sean Payton said. “He’s incredibly conscientious, spends a lot of time studying, and works hard. I think we’ve found the player who can lead us and bring back the success this franchise is used to having.”
Unified Confidence in Bo Nix
The belief in Nix’s potential was echoed by Penner, who praised the rookie’s poise and work ethic.
“I was incredibly impressed with Bo Nix both on and off the field,” Penner said. “No moment seemed too big for him. Even in tough games, he kept battling and never gave up. He has all the physical traits of a great quarterback, and mentally, he’s sharp. His teammates love him, and he’s an incredible worker. I know he’ll be even better next season.”
Looking Ahead
With Nix leading the way, the Broncos are united in their vision for the future. Their next steps are clear: continue improving and build a strong supporting cast around their young star.
“After a promising season and a long-awaited playoff return, we’re confident Bo Nix is the quarterback of the future,” Paton said. “We have a young core and a great leader to build around.”
The Broncos’ faith in Nix is unwavering, and with three resounding endorsements, the franchise is ready to take the next step forward.
