Corbin Shines in Globe Life Field Debut on 16 April

ARLINGTON – Patrick Corbin, known for his durability, proved why he’s a valuable asset to the Texas Rangers Corbin Shines in his debut at Globe Life Field. After making 32 starts for the Nationals in 2024 and consistently eating innings, Corbin has found a new home in Texas, where his ability to log innings is in high demand.

In his six years with the Nationals (2019-2024), Corbin was a workhorse, leading the team in starts (170), innings pitched (946 2/3), and strikeouts (832). His 2024 season saw him post a 5.62 ERA over 174 2/3 innings, and he ranked third in MLB for starts during that span.

While innings-eating is valuable, keeping runs off the board is the real key to success, and Corbin did just that on Wednesday night. He tossed 5 1/3 solid innings, allowing only one run in a 3-1 victory over the Angels.

Corbin was nearly perfect through five innings, allowing just two hits, one of which was wiped out by a double play. The only hiccup came in the sixth, when he allowed a string of one-out hits from Kevin Newman, Taylor Ward, and Luis Rengifo. But reliever Shawn Armstrong came in to shut things down and prevent further damage.

The 35-year-old lefty finished with six strikeouts and one walk, throwing 85 pitches in his second start of the season.

Corbin, who signed with the Rangers in the final week of Spring Training after injuries to Jon Gray and Cody Bradford created a need for starting depth, didn’t pitch in any Cactus League games. However, his strong outing on Wednesday showed he’s ready to contribute to the Rangers’ pitching staff.
