Webb was lights out on the mound, tossing 6 1/3 scoreless innings with six strikeouts, six hits allowed, and three walks. He lowered his ERA to an impressive 1.98 over his first six starts—currently fifth-best in the National League. “He’s one of the elite pitchers in the National League,” praised manager Bob Melvin.
The 28-year-old righty leaned on a mix of sinkers, sweepers, and occasional four-seamers to keep the Brewers off balance. “The game plan was solid, the defense was awesome, and everything just clicked,” Webb said postgame.
The deadlock broke in the sixth inning when Flores delivered a clutch two-run single with the bases loaded, giving the Giants the lead. That hit brought his season RBI total to a league-leading 27 in just 25 games. Two Milwaukee errors extended the inning, helping San Francisco pad its lead to 4-0.
San Francisco’s defense shined throughout, highlighted by Mike Yastrzemski’s laser throw to third to nail William Contreras trying to stretch a single. Moments later, second baseman Christian Koss added to the highlight reel with a spinning play to rob Rhys Hoskins of a hit.
Though the Brewers threatened in the ninth and pushed across two runs, Camilo Doval shut the door to secure the win.
With this victory, the Giants improved to an impressive 14-2 against right-handed starters this season—the best record in the Majors.
