The Seattle Mariners’ offense came up short in a tough 2-1 extra-innings loss to the Houston Astros at T-Mobile Park. While “Luis M. Castillo Shines” he delivered an impressive five scoreless innings, the Mariners’ struggles with runners in scoring position (RISP) proved costly once again.
Despite a strong showing from the pitching staff, including a standout defensive play by Dylan Moore, the Mariners couldn’t capitalize on key opportunities. With a 1-for-19 performance with RISP, Seattle’s offense continued to face challenges in clutch situations, dropping their RISP stats to the lowest in MLB for batting average (.121), slugging percentage (.143), and OPS (.391).
In the 12th inning, a sacrifice bunt by Chas McCormick set up Victor Caratini’s game-winning single, ultimately sealing the loss for the Mariners. Key chances, like Julio Rodríguez’s advancement to third base in the 11th and the automatic runner on third in the 12th, were squandered due to missed hits.
The Mariners, who were without key players like Victor Robles (out for 12 weeks) and Jorge Polanco, showed determination but couldn’t break through the Astros’ pitching. With the loss, the Mariners now look ahead to improving their performance and getting back on track for the next game.
